Recent Projects – Bristol Guildhall

After a devastating fire back in 2019 areas of the Bristol Guildhall were nothing more than a burnt shell. This original ceiling above the main staircase was almost lost forever.

Upon appointing us to carry out the work we set about keeping and consolidating as much of the original listed plasterwork as possible. We were able to save the original plaster ribs (as seen above) with fixings and the removal of all the burnt paint and many days of filling and sanding to restore them back to their original glory.

We then set about replacing the missing sections of lath and plaster ceilings in between each rib, using Oak laths and haired lime mortar (similar to original materials).

The lower cornices and plaster finials were replicated and original saved where possible. This was just one aspect of the work undertaken on this project.
